Flying D Kennels is a small, family-owned Australian Cattle Dog breeder located in rural Northwest Oklahoma. We've been breeding purpose-driven ACDs for over 10 years. Pictured above are three generations of our dogs — daughter, mother, and grandma.

Many forget what Australian Cattle Dogs were originally bred for — herding wild cattle in the Australian bush. These weren’t pasture pets; they were thousand-pound animals that had never seen humans. ACDs had to be tough, independent, and bold enough to take a kick and keep going. We herding instinct test the dogs in our breeding program as best we can.

We want active families, who are experienced breed owners who have a plan and goal for their dog in mind. Our dogs do well in sport or performance homes where they compete in dock diving, rally, agility or barn hunt, or ranch or farm homes. They do not do well in suburban or apartment homes as pets. We’re honored that so many families are excited about our puppies! To keep our process fair, transparent, and focused on the health and well-being of both dogs and families, we follow a very specific timeline. Applications are sorted by best fit, deposits are first come, first served.
Step 1: Get on the waitlist once a litter is announced.
Step 2: Place a deposit once the puppies are 6 weeks old.
We do not keep a waitlist until a litter is born.
Based on our experience, most families prefer to apply when they know a litter is actually on the way. This also prevents long wait times and outdated lists. Once I receive your application, I will reach out to confirm you are interested in the current or next upcoming litter and will put you on the waitlist to be notified to place a deposit when the puppies are 6 weeks old. We do not count any number of people on our waitlist. It's informal until we actually receive deposits.
Deposits are accepted only after puppies are 6 weeks old.
I encourage you to read the temperament description of the sire and dam once you decide you're ready to take home a puppy and choose a litter that you feel has parents that sound like they have some of the characteristics you're looking for. The best way to a successful match is to consider the parents and grandparents of your future puppy. I focus on making sure my families are prepared for the breed as a whole, as temperaments can very widely, even within a litter and are shaped hugely by environment and training.
Most families wait approximately 2–3 months from first inquiry to take-home day, depending on when our next litter arrives and how quickly applications fill. I encourage families to apply for a puppy once they see a litter they are interested in.
If you’re interested in a future puppy:
Yes. We are in compliance with the American Kennel Club’s inspection and care standards. During an AKC inspection, a representative reviews our dogs, their housing, daily care routines, and our records to ensure everything meets AKC guidelines. This includes cleanliness, proper space, access to food and water, accurate documentation, and proper identification for each dog. AKC inspections are confidential and not every breeder is inspected, so maintaining compliance reflects our personal commitment to doing things the right way. Because we do not allow in-home visits, this inspection helps give our puppy families peace of mind about where their puppy comes from.

Want to stay updated on future litters? Join our announcement list! You’ll receive: Pregnancy confirmations Application opening dates Litter announcements Occasional puppy updates This is not a waitlist and does not give priority — it’s simply the best way to stay informed.
