Let's schedule your pickup appointment! Time slots are for 30 minutes. Feel free to bring a blanket or towel to rub on mom to bring her smell home with you. Please if you bring other dogs, leave them inside your vehicle as this upsets mama dog who feels protective of her puppies. *Please note, you will only get to see mama if you are coming to us. If you choose another location or the airport to meet, Mama will not be traveling with us.

Food

This is the food your puppy will be eating. More detailed feeding instructions will be included in your go home folder. We buy this food at Tractor Supply. Please purchase this food before pickup. It is very important that you do not change puppy's food in the first 30 days.

AKC STAR Puppy

We recommend you enroll your new puppy in a training class by 14-16 weeks old. AKC STAR Puppy or CGC title is highly recommended. It doesn't matter how many dogs you've owned or how experienced you are. The training is essential for every young pup, it's not about you, it's for the puppy.

Ask us about our training rewards program where you can earn a $200 credit.

If you are flying home with your puppy

The only part of these recommendations we disagree with is giving your pup Benadryl. This is not necessary, you do not need to medicate your puppy to travel.

TOP 10 TIPS For Your Heeler Puppy

What type of owner you need to be, exercise & mental requirements etc.

ACD life stages

My 3-Month-Old Blue Heeler is Attacking Me

Congratulations on Your New Australian Cattle Dog!

ACD owners must be willing to train their dogs and establish themselves as the “leader.”

ACDs are often called “Velcro dogs.” They bond closely to their people and want to be involved in everything they do. Your dog will be a true companion while you work the ranch, run, hike, bike, or go about your daily activities. ACDs do not thrive if left constantly unattended in the back yard.

Joint Health

Order stairs or a ramp if you plan for your young puppy to get on the bed, couch or any other elevated surface. The rule of thumb is your puppy should not jump anything higher than their shoulder until over the age of 12 months. Why? The impact or possible slipping can cause injury to developing joints.

Protect Your Puppy

First Weeks Home

Do not stop at gas stations, dog parks, dog potty areas etc. Do not let your puppy around places any other dogs may have used the restroom where you do not know their vaccination status. It is best to have people come visit your home and remove their shoes at the door for socialization for the next few weeks.

Microchip

Your pup will be implanted with a microchip. You should have your vet scan your puppy’s microchip during your first visit and then at your pup’s annual visits to ensure the microchip is still working and has not migrated. It is not a tracking device and there's no GPS.

Buy a crate

Keep your puppy in a crate while you are away; this aids in house training and keeps the puppy from chewing up everything in your house. It is useful in case of emergencies, at time of spay or neuter, and the safest way to transport in the vehicle. We recommend the Ruffland brand, Intermediate Size.

Crow the Cattle Dog from ZZxRose

This breed is meant to be a working dog, meaning in their ideal home, they are herding daily, covering miles of rugged terrain each day gathering cattle.

You can jog them each day by running or bike riding. If your physical limits or backyard do not allow this, you need to purchase a dog pacer or treadmill. *ONLY after 12 months of age!

Exercise

  • At less than 6 months of age, due to their developing joints, we do not recommend anything other than a 1 mile or less walk each day, preferably adventure walks where they are sniffing and able to walk off leash or loose lead at their own pace.
  • After 6 months of age they may do longer hikes on easy terrain.
  • Agility-no jumps until after 15 months. Can start groundwork at 9-12 months.
  • Fetch-After 12 months.
  • Dog parks are not a place for cattle dogs at any time during their lives.  The nature of a cattle dog is to control their environment, be protective of their owner, suspicious of strangers and there is no good scenario at a dog park for them.
